The Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania declared independence from the USSR. The Lithuanian Canadian Community established a Crisis Centre in order to enable Lithuanian Canadians to react as quickly as possible to events in Lithuania as it was taking steps to secede from the USSR.
This poster was a successful way to mobilize Lithuanian Canadians in Toronto and was used to urge the Canadian government to recognize Lithuania as an independent country. Canada recognized the Republic of Lithuania in August of 1991.
Current events provide an opportunity to sign another petition - a global petition aiming to collect 10 million signatures worldwide in support of Ukranians. 🇺🇦
