A white placard. In black and red magic marker is printed: GORBY DON'T SAY NYET TO FREEDOM

On March 11, 1990, Lithuania re-established itself as an independent country after 50 years of Soviet occupation. Lithuanian Canadians began mobilizing resources to support the fledgling country. Along with the Latvian and Estonian Canadian communities, many peaceful demonstrations were organized - the first one was at Toronto City Hall at the end of March, 1990. These are a few samples of placards used by the demonstrators.
